Zubiri out, Chiz in as Senate President

In a surprising turn of events, Senate President Miguel Zubiri announced his resignation from the top Senate post. The announcement, made during the May 20, 2024 Session, comes amid rising political tensions and pressure from, to use Zubiri’s words, “the powers that be” — an indication of the boiling political waters inside  and outside the Senate.

Miguel Zubiri served as Senate President since July 2022. He is succeeded by Chiz Escudero who was nominated for the post by Alan Peter Cayetano.
